Hannah Clark Attends Presidential Inauguration with Campbellsville University

2013 Feb 1

January 2013 will mark a month that many Campbellsville University students will remember for a long time, including Hannah Clark of Campbellsville, Ky.. Campbellsville University made it possible for three groups of students to attend President Barack Obama's second inauguration ceremony.

Students attending were from three university clubs: Phi Alpha Theta history honor society, the Sociology Club and the Political Science Club.

Zach Smith, a member of Phi Alpha Theta, of Russell Springs, Ky., said, "We had the opportunity to see so many amazing things in Washington, D.C. One of my favorites definitely has to be the White House tour. I also enjoyed watching the 'Changing of the Guard' at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery."

Aly Bryant, a member of the Sociology Club, of Lancaster, Ky., said, "My favorite parts of the trip were the inauguration and building relationships with my classmates. Seeing the president live gave me a new perspective on our government and our potential as students. The president is a person, just like us. He worked hard and ended up in the position of president. It encouraged me to work hard to reach my goals."

Jacqueline Nelson, a member and community liaison of Phi Alpha Theta, of Campbellsville, Ky., said, "The history we were blessed to be a part of and the memories we made along the way will be ones that will last us a lifetime. Not only did we grow closer as a group, but we each gained a greater sense of appreciation and admiration for the rich history of our great nation."

Kaity Skaggs, member and vice president of Phi Alpha Theta, of New Haven, Ky., said, "This was an awesome experience and I will never forget the friendships and the memories I made on this trip. I would like to say a special thanks to everyone from Campbellsville University who donated money to help us go!"

All the students said that they were so grateful to have an opportunity like this. They wanted to give a big thanks to the advisors, Dr. Wendy Davis, associate professor of history; Dr. Shawn Williams, assistant professor of political science; and Dr. Lindsay Anderson, assistant professor of sociology, who went with them on the trip.

Nelson also said, "I am so grateful to God, Campbellsville University, the administration, faculty, and anyone else who helped make this trip possible. I am so thankful to call Campbellsville University my home."
