McIntosh of LaGrange, Ky., is Hooded at a Campbellsville University School of Education ceremony

2018 Jan 11

"This world, our schools, need kindness. Where will it come from? It will come from you," Cullen Byrne, a Campbellsville University senior who was the salutatorian for December, said at Campbellsville University School of Education's pinning and hooding ceremony recently at Campbellsville Baptist Church.

Michelle McIntosh of LaGrange, Ky., was Hooded at the ceremony.

Byrne spoke for the graduating class, emphasizing traits of courage, kindness and character, all of which help a teacher accomplish greatness, according to Byrne.

"We have to have courage to step into the classroom with little more than a taste of what the teaching experience is like," Byrne said.

Byrne also said kindness went hand-in-hand with joy.

"When we choose kindness, we recognize that it feeds of itself," Byrne said.

Byrne also referenced character as "what you do when no one is watching." Byrne also indicated the difference between character and reputation, saying that someone's character is who they are and their reputation is merely what others think of someone.
