Michael McKinley of Lexington Ky. initiated into Campbellsville University's Spanish honor society

Twelve members were installed in the new Campbellsville Omega Mu chapter of Sigma Delta Pi in a ceremony Nov. 14 in the Banquet Hall Atrium.

Michael McKinley, a senior of Lexington, Ky., was initiated into Campbellsville University's Omega Mu chapter of Sigma Delta Pi Spanish honor society. McKinley is a Business Administration and Spanish major and serves as treasurer of the Omega Mu chapter.

Of the 12 members inducted, three are honorary members.

Dr. Nadina Olmedo, assistant professor of Spanish, who was initiated at the University of Kentucky, was the only member of Sigma Delta Pi on campus before the ceremony.

Nine members of the chapter are Spanish majors, and the three honorary members are auditing classes and one is a CU faculty member.

Sigma Delta Pi is a nationwide organization that was started in Berkeley, Calif. in the 1940s. The club is for honor students who are juniors and seniors who have completed at least 18 hours of Spanish courses at Campbellsville University.

Mark P. Del Mastro, who unable to make the ceremony, sent a video welcoming Campbellsville University as a charter of Sigma Delta Pi. He said Sigma Delta Pi was created to recognize outstanding accomplishments to students who qualify for the society.

Del Mastro also recognized the Sigma Delta Pi society on its 93rd birthday and congratulated the 586 chapters nationwide.
