Ashlee Matney receives Non-Tenured Faculty Award from Campbellsville University
Campbellsville, KY (10/16/2019) — Ashlee Matney, associate professor of mathematics, was awarded the Campbellsville University Non-Tenured Faculty Award at a recent chapel.
The purpose of the Non-Tenured Faculty award is to highlight a faculty member who embraces a servant leadership role, demonstrates excellent teaching performance in the classroom, collaborates with peers and contributes to their content through professional development and scholarly work.
Matney is a Campbellsville native and served as a recitation leader and instructor of mathematics at the University of Kentucky before coming to Campbellsville University in 2009. Matney holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Accounting from Campbellsville University, a Master of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky.
Matney is a true "lifelong learner." A former colleague said, "Matney works with the freshman Learning Communities project and has been actively involved in Cheatham Center activities. She has been involved in Center reading groups and workshops and has used Center technology to record videos for her online classes."
The colleague said, "If there is a workshop, training session, conference or a webinar offer, Matney is sure to be there. Matney desires to stay ahead of the game when it comes to creative ways to present a topic to her students in the classroom and online."
Another colleague said, "Matney works tirelessly to provide the best educational experience possible to all her students, both in class and online. She spent countless hours this summer recording videos of herself explaining the course material so that students would have a resource to use just as if they were in the classroom. She has always spent a great deal of time helping students during her office hours and she responds quickly and thoroughly to online students' requests for help."
A few of her students said, "Ms. Matney does an excellent job at teaching. She moves slowly and clearly and gives many examples. She returns assignments quickly and is always willing to help. She has a great teaching style and she genuinely cares that her students are learning."
Another student said, "This course made me study, a lot! But it's really helpful! I could comprehend the way she taught very well and this was my best math course I've had here at Campbellsville University."
Dr. Donna Hedgepath, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said, Matney "consistently receives excellent evaluations from students and is well-liked by both students and her peers. She truly exemplifies a "servant leader."
