Campbellsville, KY (07/15/2020) — Kentucky Career Center - Bluegrass is offering the chance for people who have lost their jobs or been displaced to receive their Certified Nursing Aid (CNA) certification free-of-charge.

According to Amy Glasscock, director of workforce services for the Bluegrass Area Development District, the organization received a national dislocated worker grant. In response to COVID-19, they have chosen to use part of these funds to help with CNA training for those who qualify.

Their new program focuses on Defeating Emergency Food-Insecurity and Elder Needs During Emergency Response, also known as Project DEFENDER.

Through Project DEFENDER, the Kentucky Career Center - Bluegrass will pay for training and materials, such as books, scrubs and testing, and provide an internship opportunity. Once a student completes their classes, they are set up with an internship opportunity of up to 1,000 hours.

The organization has paired with Campbellsville University's Harrodsburg's Conover Education Center and the Bluegrass Community and Technical College to offer the CNA classes.

There are three classroom options for fall 2020 at Campbellsville's Harrodsburg center: Aug. 10 - Oct. 5 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m.; Sept. 1 - Nov. 19 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m.; and Oct. 13, 2020 - Jan. 14, 2021 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

For more information or to begin the process contact Tiffanie Reeves, workforce services manager for the Kentucky Career Center, at treeves@bgadd.org or (859) 629-5598.
