Hooker successfully defends dissertation and obtains Ed.D.

Campbellsville, KY (07/29/2020) — Tim Hooker, instructor in English as a Second Language (ESL) at Campbellsville University, successfully defended his dissertation on June 17. He graduated on July 25 from Union University with his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Higher Education Leadership degree.

Hooker has been teaching at Campbellsville University for seven years. He has taught all 15 of the ESL courses for the university's ESL Institute. Some of Hooker's most frequent classes include Intermediate Listening Advanced Reading and Intermediate Writing. He also served as a reader for Pathways 2, the current Intermediate Listening textbook.

Hooker has been involved with numerous international student activities both on and off campus throughout his time at CU. These include Bible studies, fellowship events, and Beijing Information Management Schools (BIMS) summer activities.

He has served as a driver for student airport trips for the Center for Global Engagement (CGE), led ESL annual service projects and hosted international student meals at his home.

Hooker said, "I have thoroughly enjoyed serving our international student population at CU. In addition to seeing students come to know more about Jesus, one of my greatest joys is having been a part of numerous international students' journeys to a bachelor's or master's degree from CU."

He has also taught at the Baptist Student Center (language institute) in Bangkok, Thailand, Boston University (through Baptist Student Ministries), Vietnamese Association of Illinois, Bell Eikawa Gakuin in Hagi, Japan, Handong Global University in Pohang, South Korea and Inha University in Incheon, South Korea.

Hooker is from Paducah, Ky. and received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Union University, his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Wheaton College.

He is married to Gantuya Ganbold Hooker, and they have one son, Josiah.
