LaWanda Hazard encourages students to find a Godly purpose in an ever-changing world

by Simon Baker, student news writer, Office of University Communications

Campbellsville, KY (02/18/2025) — LaWanda Hazard encouraged Campbellsville University students to stay the course by continuing to serve Christ, even in a world filled with sin and distraction, and to never give up on their dreams.

Speaking at CU's chapel on Feb. 5, she began her message with some words of encouragement for students. Hazard reminded students that it is key to keep God first and to remember His plans are superior to theirs.

"In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success," Hazard, a member of the CU Board of Trustees, noted.

In addition, she shared that people's main goal in life is not to live for themself or their own ambitions, but to please their Heavenly Father.

"The world will shift on you in a minute," Hazard shared. "It will shift, and it's changing daily."

Instead, she said, "Listen to the Word instead of the world. The Word of God stands. It never fails."

She reminded people not to be so caught up in their own ambitions and achievements that they forget who got them there.

"Be thankful, because God has truly blessed us all," Hazard proclaimed.

To Hazard, all of these points she shared with students are more than just words. They are reflections on a life lived and based on her past experience. Not only did she once fail out of college but also fall away from the Lord. However, as she found, she was never too far gone for God and His blessings. Now, she finds herself closer to God.

"I dimmed my light because it was so far out of my comfort zone," Hazard said. "And in doing that, I have failed to meet what God wants me to be, but I'm trying to do better."

Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through a variety of informative speakers and presentations.
