McGaha, former state senator, to speak at chapel Oct. 6

Campbellsville, KY (09/30/2021) — Vernie McGaha, a former Kentucky state senator, will speak at Campbellsville University's chapel at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6, in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville as part of the university's Heritage Day.

Heritage Day at Campbellsville University is about reflecting on the history of CU's traditions.

McGaha represented Kentucky's 15th Senate District, which included Adair, Casey, Russell and Pulaski counties, from 1997 to 2013.

A 1965 graduate of Adair County High School, McGaha studied music at Campbellsville College and graduated in 1969 with a bachelor of science degree. He received his master's degree in 1971 from Western Kentucky University and his Rank 1 from WKU in 1973.

Before entering politics, McGaha had a career in education that spanned almost three decades. From 1969 to 1986, McGaha served as band director at Russell County High School. He was also principal of Union Chapel Elementary School from 1986 to 1987 and principal at Russell County Middle School from 1988 to 1996.

McGaha has also been a member of the Crossroads Quartet since 1960.

McGaha is married to Connie Sue Smith McGaha, and they have two children.
