Missions Week starts Sept. 20 at Campbellsville University
Campbellsville, KY (09/16/2021) — Missions Week will take place the week of Sept. 20 at Campbellsville University.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 20, students are invited to participate in a refugee simulation. According to Cynthia Colyer, bachelor of social work field coordinator and assistant professor of social work, students interested in participating may either register to participate on the CU App or at the Betty Dobbins Heilman Student Wellness Center at 534 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
The simulation will start at the Wellness Center.
According to Colyer, the refugee simulation will consist of a refugee camp registration, security screening, medical station, language school, water and food station, holding area, immigration judge, resettlement interview and debriefing.
Colyer said the refugee simulation is "an experimental opportunity for students to grow in awareness and be moved to action to impact the refugee crisis."
From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21, a Food for Thought panel discussion will take place at the Badgett Academic Support Center Banquet Hall, 110 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.
"This will provide a window into the experience of students living and studying in a foreign country," Colyer said. "International student panelists will share about major cultural differences between their home countries and the United States as well as personal experiences of culture shock."
The Vine, a weekly campus worship experience, is at 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21 at the Student Activities Center, 106 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.
During chapel at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22, the Buckner Shoes Project will kick off. According to Colyer, the Buckner Shoes Project is a yearly event on Campbellsville University's main campus, that provides new shoes and socks to orphans and vulnerable children in the United States and throughout the world.
Donations, that will be accepted through the months of September and October, may be dropped off in shoe bins located in the foyer of Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.
Stan Meador, team leader for the International Mission Board's South Brazil Team, will speak at chapel at 10 a.m., Sept. 22, as part of Missions Week.
Beginning at 11 a.m., Sept. 22, a 24-hour prayer tent will be set up at the Student Activities Center. The prayer tent will continue until 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 23. Between 10 p.m., Sept. 22 and 2 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 23, a prayer vigil will take place at the tent.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 23, a Missions Fair will take place in front of Montgomery Library, 116 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky. There, students will have the chance to sign up for mission trips during the next academic year and hear more about them from faculty who are leading them.
